'A Vita
‘A Vita is a Calabrian producer with strong ties to the Cirò Marina area, on the Ionian coast of the province of Crotone, within the historic Cirò PDO region. The name, in the local dialect, refers to the vine and encapsulates a direct connection with the plant, the Mediterranean landscape and a designation of origin in which Gaglioppo is the defining characteristic of the red wines. Alongside this grape variety, the winery also promotes other traditional local varieties, including Greco Bianco and Magliocco, which are seen as an expression of Calabrian biodiversity.
The natural setting is that of a vineyard exposed to the influence of the sea and sheltered by the inland landscape of Calabria, with a warm, breezy climate characterised by significant daily temperature variations. These conditions favour full but uneven ripening, giving rise to wines with a distinct regional character – sunny, savoury and at the same time taut – capable of combining Mediterranean body with expressive precision.
The winemaking approach prioritises responsibility towards the soil and respect for the agricultural calendar. In the cellar, the winemaking process follows key principles: spontaneous fermentation, no enzymes, natural settling and limited use of sulphur dioxide. The result is a recognisable style, one that is minimally interventionist and deeply rooted in Cirò, where the raw material is allowed to express itself naturally and the wines strive for clarity, vitality and harmony with the landscape from which they originate.
