Anna Berra
Anna Berra is a winemaker based in Ramandolo, a small hamlet of Nimis, in the heart of the Friuli Colli Orientali region. Her identity stems from a highly distinctive hilly landscape, linked to the Ramandolo DOCG – a historic appellation in Friuli Venezia Giulia and a benchmark for Verduzzo Friulano. In this area, between Nimis and Tarcento, the vineyards occupy sunny slopes that encourage rich ripening and a natural concentration of aromas – key elements in the expression of the region’s wines.
The approach in the vineyard prioritises careful management of the raw material: the vines are trained using the Guyot system, no chemical herbicides are used, and pest and disease control focuses on solutions with a low environmental impact. This agronomic approach underpins a meticulous viticultural practice, designed to bring out the best in both the indigenous grape varieties and the international varieties grown in the region.
The wines reflect a balanced interpretation of the terroir. Those vinified in stainless steel highlight freshness, varietal clarity and immediate expressiveness, whilst the wines aged in French oak seek greater depth, structure and complexity. Of particular note is the Ramandolo, made from dried Verduzzo Friulano grapes, which best embodies the region’s distinctive character: a full-bodied sweet wine, striking a balance between aromatic intensity, smoothness, acidity and a characteristic tannic structure. Overall, Anna Berra represents a consistent voice for the Colli Orientali, rooted in local tradition and a straightforward, recognisable approach to winemaking.
