Attilio Contini
Attilio Contini is a long-established winery in western Sardinia, with links to Cabras, the Sinis region and the lower Tirso Valley, where Vernaccia di Oristano is one of the most recognisable wines. In operation since 1898, the winery has built its identity on promoting indigenous grape varieties and engaging in a constant dialogue with the island’s diverse landscapes: the alluvial and sandy soils of the Tirso, the sea breezes and the mistral of the Gulf of Oristano, the volcanic soils associated with Monte Arci and the granite bedrock of northern Sardinia. The expressive heart of the estate remains Vernaccia, grown in a Mediterranean climate characterised by mild winters, hot and breezy summers, and ripening conditions that produce dry, deep and complex wines. Traditional winemaking involves white vinification and long ageing in partially filled oak and chestnut casks, a condition that favours the development of the flor yeast layer and the appellation’s typical oxidative profile. Alongside this historic tradition, the estate also produces wines from Nieddera, Vermentino and Cannonau, with a focus on grape selection, territorial consistency and practices that include organic methods and sustainable development models. The result is a distinct and recognisable Sardinian style, capable of combining tradition, Mediterranean salinity, solar warmth and measured technical expertise.
