Barberani
Barberani is an Umbrian producer with roots in the hills overlooking Lake Corbara, along the historic route between Orvieto and Todi, where the River Tiber helps to shape a wine-growing landscape with a strong sense of identity. Its natural point of reference is the Orvieto Classico region, where the tradition of white wines made from Grechetto and Trebbiano Procanico meets unique soil and climate conditions: soils of volcanic and sedimentary origin, with calcareous-clay components, and a microclimate influenced by the lake. The result is wines characterised by freshness, aromatic definition and a recognisable minerality, often seen as a distinctive feature of the region.
The agricultural approach prioritises organic farming and vineyard management aimed at maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. Controlled grass cover, green manure, organic and plant-based fertilisers, and the reuse of vine cuttings are all part of a vision aimed at nourishing the soil and minimising intervention. In the winery, too, the focus is on preserving the raw material: the grapes come from the estate’s own vineyards, vinification is carried out separately to highlight the characteristics of each individual plot, and treatments are designed to respect the wine’s natural development.
One feature particularly associated with the area is the autumnal mist over Lake Corbara, which, in favourable years, creates the conditions for Botrytis cinerea. Barberani thus interprets Orvieto as a precise expression of the terroir, combining agricultural heritage, technical research and environmental awareness.
