Benito Favaro
Benito Favaro is a Piedmontese producer based in Piverone, in the Canavese region, within the Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG area. His identity stems from his connection with a glacial wine-growing landscape, characterised by the Serra d’Ivrea and morainic hills that provide soils rich in pebbles and minerals. The proximity of Lake Viverone helps to moderate the microclimate, whilst the breezes from the Alps promote even ripening and a natural development of the grapes’ aromas.
The main grape variety is Erbaluce, a historic variety from the Canavese region and the cornerstone of the Caluso appellation, capable of accurately expressing freshness, tension and finesse. In the vineyards, care for the raw material is focused on measured interventions, with particular attention paid to vegetative balance and ripening, so as to preserve the varietal brightness and the mineral character that characterise the expression of the terroir.
The style of the wines emphasises clarity, verticality and depth without being heavy-handed. Erbaluce displays floral and citrus notes, a supple yet incisive structure, and a mineral character that underpins its length. The production offers an essential and consistent interpretation of the Canavese region, highlighting the potential of the morainic soils and the grape variety’s ability to produce taut, elegant and distinctive Piedmontese whites.
