Bisci
Bisci is a producer from the Marche region with deep ties to Verdicchio di Matelica, an internal, Apennine appellation that expresses a fresher, more taut and vertical character of this great regional white grape variety. The winery was founded in 1972 and is situated between the provinces of Macerata and Ancona, amidst the rolling hills that flank the Matelica valley – an area with a long history of wine-growing and recognised as the Marche region’s first DOC for Verdicchio. Its location, far from the direct influence of the sea, the daily temperature variations and the pre-Apennine nature of the territory all contribute to wines with a savoury character, featuring lively acidity, subtle aromas and a characteristic, slightly bitter finish.
Bisci’s work focuses on making the most of the raw material, with particular attention to Verdicchio, complemented by a carefully selected blend of traditional and international red grape varieties. Agronomic management follows certified organic protocols, with controlled cover cropping and interventions designed to preserve soil balance and the vigour of the vines. In the winery, the approach remains focused on precision and a clear expression of the terroir: meticulous winemaking, respect for varietal identity and the pursuit of an expressive maturity capable of combining energy, depth and aromatic purity. The result is a recognisable style, in which Verdicchio di Matelica presents itself as a wine with fine structure, marked savouriness and a natural capacity for ageing.
