Bruna
Bruna is a Ligurian producer based in Ranzo, in the Arroscia Valley, in the hinterland of Western Liguria. Their work focuses in particular on Pigato, the region’s iconic grape variety, and a biotype of Vermentino which, in this western part of the region, has developed its own distinct characteristics. The setting is the Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC, amongst hills close to the sea and the foothills of the Alps, where viticulture thrives amidst terraces, stone walls, olive groves, woods and Mediterranean scrub.
Understanding the terroir lies at the heart of our winemaking identity. The vineyards are spread across Ortovero, Pogli and Ranzo, in landscapes characterised by biodiversity, constant breezes, intense light and stark contrasts between the influence of the sea and the mountain air. The soils play a decisive role in defining the wine’s style: clayey marl, fine sandstone, blue clays of marine origin rich in fossils, calcareous soils and red clays with iron-rich components give rise to different expressions of Pigato.
The agricultural approach emphasises the balance between the plant and the soil, through organic cultivation and a focus on agronomic precision. In the winery, a minimalist philosophy prevails, geared towards respecting the raw material and highlighting the distinct identities of each vineyard. Bruna’s wines are characterised by their savouriness, freshness, mineral tension and Mediterranean aromas, with a particular ability to convey the essence of the Arroscia Valley through elegance, depth and a true reflection of the terroir.
