Bruno Verdi
Bruno Verdi is a wine producer based in Vergomberra, in the municipality of Canneto Pavese, in the heart of the hilly Oltrepò Pavese region of Lombardy. His identity stems from a historic connection with this part of the province of Pavia, where viticulture thrives between the River Po and the Apennine hills, on sun-exposed slopes and soils capable of imparting character to both red wines and base wines for sparkling wine. The winery interprets the terroir through grape varieties deeply rooted in local tradition, such as Croatina, Barbera, Uva Rara and Ughetta di Canneto, alongside Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Rhine Riesling.
Work in the vineyards prioritises a low-impact approach: no chemical weed control, grass cover, organic fertilisation and rotational green manure all contribute to careful management of the vegetative balance. Hand-harvesting and careful handling of the grapes during transport underpin a philosophy centred on the quality of the raw material. Among the most representative plots, Cavariola stands out for its amphitheatre-like terraced layout, favourable aspect and the presence of native grape varieties; Campo del Marrone and Vigna Costa, on the other hand, offer a precise expression of Barbera and Rhine Riesling on loamy-sandy soils.
In the winery, traditional methods coexist with a contemporary technical approach: controlled fermentation, the use of indigenous yeasts for most of the wines, careful grape selection and precisely timed ageing all contribute to a crisp, terroir-driven and distinctive style. Bruno Verdi’s wines capture the essence of the Oltrepò Pavese with balance, depth and consistent expression.
