Ca' di Sopra
Ca’ di Sopra is a Romagna-based producer based in Marzeno, in the foothills above Faenza, in an area straddling Brisighella and Modigliana. The vineyard landscape encompasses the valley of the Marzeno stream and the Agello hill, where varying exposures, hilltop altitudes and predominantly clayey and calcareous soils give rise to grapes with a distinct territorial character. In some plots, the clay takes on richer, redder hues, whilst towards the badlands, blue-tinged clay rich in marine fossils appears: elements that contribute to the multifaceted character of the Sangiovese and the other grape varieties grown here.
The winery’s identity is linked above all to the Sangiovese-growing region of Romagna, with a particular focus on the Marzeno appellation, but it also encompasses the promotion of Albana, the region’s historic white grape variety. Work in the vineyard focuses on selecting the most expressive plots and carefully managing the ripening of the grapes, with hand-harvesting as detailed in the winery’s profiles and winemaking processes designed to respect the terroir. For the reds, the use of extended maceration, stainless steel, concrete and oak forms part of a style that seeks depth, precision and territorial continuity; for the Albana, white wine vinification and ageing in concrete emphasise a dry, textural profile. Ca’ di Sopra thus expresses a recognisable, authentic and distinctly hilly Romagna, deeply rooted in the soils of Marzeno.
