Cantina di Venosa
Cantina di Venosa is a historic winery in the Vulture region, in the north of Basilicata, deeply rooted in the wine-growing landscape of Venosa and the Aglianico del Vulture appellation. Founded in 1957, it embodies a collective agricultural tradition centred on the Aglianico grape variety, showcasing a hilly landscape shaped by the ancient Vulture volcano. The volcanic soils, the local climate and the winery’s inland location within the province of Potenza all contribute to defining wines with a distinctive structure, capable of combining intensity, freshness and a mineral character.
The winery’s production identity stems from the fusion of local heritage and technical innovation. The management of the raw materials focuses on grape selection, limiting yields and meticulous winemaking, with the aim of capturing the character of the terroir in the wines without compromising balance and precision. The Aglianico del Vulture DOC and Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG are the region’s most important wines, expressions of a grape variety which, in the Vulture area, develops deep colour, aromas of dark fruit, a savoury texture and a natural propensity for ageing.
Whilst remaining true to tradition, Cantina di Venosa focuses on innovation and responsible viticulture – elements that strengthen the bond between the landscape, the farming community and the quality of the raw materials. The result is a distinct and consistent Lucanian style, rooted in the culture of the Vulture region and Venosa’s speciality in Aglianico.
