Cantina Sant'Andrea
Cantina Sant’Andrea is a winery in southern Lazio, based in Borgo Vodice, in the Terracina area, between the Pontine Plain, the Circeo mountain range and the influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its identity stems from an agricultural history that stretches from Pantelleria to Tunisia before finding its home in the Pontine region, whilst maintaining a strong connection with vine cultivation and an understanding of the estate’s diverse soils.
The vineyards reflect distinct environments: in Borgo Vodice, sandy soils predominate, tempered by the proximity to the sea and well-suited to the grape varieties of the Circeo DOC; in the Aprilia area, medium-textured soils are found; in Terracina, in the Campo Soriano area, viticulture encounters karstic rocks, red clays and a sea breeze that helps to define ripeness, freshness and the aromatic profile. Of particular importance here is Moscato di Terracina, the appellation’s flagship grape variety, alongside historic and regional varieties such as Cesanese, Aleatico and Abbuoto, complemented by grape varieties commonly found in the Pontine area of Lazio.
The winemaking approach enhances the raw material through careful agronomic management, manual labour in the most challenging vineyards and practices designed to respect the environment. In the winery, technical decisions are designed to preserve the expression of the grape variety and the terroir, resulting in wines that combine Mediterranean sunshine, aromatic complexity, savoury notes and a distinctive territorial character linked to Terracina and its coastal and hilly landscape.
