Cantina Santadi
Cantina Santadi is a historic winery in the Sulcis region, in south-western Sardinia, founded in 1960 as a collective project aimed at promoting local grapes and the region’s wine-growing identity. Its character is deeply intertwined with the Mediterranean landscape surrounding Santadi: a bright and breezy environment, close to the sea, characterised by sandy shores, inland hills and soils that lend character to the grapes.
The Carignano del Sulcis is the winery’s most distinctive wine. In this area, the grape variety finds particularly favourable conditions: the warmth of the sun, the maritime influence, the wind and the sandy soils all contribute to wines with an intense yet balanced body, featuring Mediterranean fruit, smooth tannins and a natural savoury quality. A distinctive feature is the presence of ungrafted vines, preserved thanks to the sandy nature of the soil, which constitute a rare viticultural heritage deeply rooted in the local agricultural history.
Alongside Carignano, the winery also produces wines from other traditional Sardinian grape varieties, maintaining an approach focused on interpreting the terroir rather than standardising the style. Care taken with the raw materials, the selection of grapes and a winemaking process designed to combine precision, depth and elegance define wines with a Mediterranean character, recognisable for their balance, expressive warmth and faithfulness to the Sulcis region.
