Cantine Viola
Cantine Viola is a Calabrian producer based in Saracena, in the province of Cosenza, deeply involved in the revival of Moscato di Saracena, a rare passito wine that is emblematic of the region. The winery is set within the landscape of the Pollino National Park, where the mountainous terrain meets the Mediterranean character of northern Calabria, creating natural conditions characterised by biodiversity, good air circulation and significant daily temperature variations. This setting helps to define wines with a distinct territorial character, crafted from indigenous grape varieties and a respectful approach to the raw materials.
The winery’s most distinctive feature is its commitment to preserving the winemaking heritage associated with Moscato di Saracena, now also recognised as a Slow Food Presidium. The winemaking process preserves traditional steps that give the wine its unique character, such as concentrating the must through boiling and adding previously dried Moscatello grapes, with a careful selection of the grapes intended for vinification. Alongside Moscato, the winery promotes historic Calabrian grape varieties such as Magliocco, Guarnaccia and Mantonico, crafting them with the aim of expressing freshness, balance and distinctiveness.
Cantine Viola’s identity thus stems from the convergence of agricultural heritage, research into local heritage and cultural continuity. Its wines tell the story of Saracena through a style that combines concentration, aromatic finesse and a deep connection to the land, helping to keep alive a Calabrian winemaking tradition of great value.
