Castellare di Castellina
Castellare di Castellina is a Tuscan wine producer based in Castellina in Chianti, in the historic heart of the Chianti Classico region. Its identity stems from its connection to a hilly landscape with a strong tradition of winegrowing, where favourable exposures, limestone soils and an Apennine-Mediterranean climate help to define wines characterised by freshness, balance and aromatic depth. The reference to ‘Sangioveto’ – the traditional local name for Sangiovese – is a hallmark of the estate: the decision to prioritise native grape varieties, with the addition of Canaiolo in the more classic styles, maintains a direct link to the historic formula of Chianti Classico and its most terroir-driven expression.
The winemaking approach prioritises a precise understanding of the raw material, with winemaking techniques designed to preserve the clarity of the fruit, the tannic structure and the overall harmony. The use of stainless steel for fermentation and previously used oak for ageing, where appropriate, supports a style that seeks balance rather than grandeur, allowing the character of the terroir to shine through. Sustainability is part of the producer’s stated philosophy and is reflected in an agricultural approach geared towards respecting the Chianti environment.
The wines of Castellare di Castellina are characterised by a profile true to Tuscan tradition, with a bright colour, savoury depth, well-integrated tannins and a consistent character that combines elegance, local identity and the ability to interpret Chianti Classico in a coherent manner.
