Producers/ Castello di Neive
Castello di Neive
Castello di Neive is a Piedmontese producer with deep ties to the village of Neive and the Barbaresco DOCG tradition. Its identity has its roots in the heart of the Langhe, in an area where Nebbiolo finds one of its most recognisable expressions, thanks to well-exposed hillsides, ideal soils and a winemaking heritage historically linked to the village. The most distinctive vineyard is Santo Stefano, in the Albesani sub-zone, situated closest to the River Tanaro and prized for its aspect, slope, microclimate and soil characteristics.
Work in the vineyard aims to preserve the distinct character of each individual plot, alternating between separate vinification – when the character of the site calls for an independent interpretation – and a holistic approach – when the vineyards complement one another. Alongside Nebbiolo, Barbera continues to play an important role in expressing the terroir of Santo Stefano, reaffirming the producer’s connection with the historic grape varieties of the Langhe.
The agricultural approach incorporates sustainable practices and a focus on soil health: minimal tillage between rows, preservation of wild flora, mechanical management of the area beneath the vines, insect mating disruption and monitoring of agronomic risks. Adherence to SQNPI integrated production, the principles of regenerative viticulture and Equalitas certification define a philosophy geared towards environmental, social and economic balance. The result is a style that seeks precision, terroir and expressive continuity, with wines capable of conveying the austere, elegant and layered character of Neive.
