Castello di Verduno
Castello di Verduno is a Piedmontese producer based in the Langhe, with an identity shaped by both Verduno and Barbaresco. Its character stems from the convergence of two key territories for Nebbiolo: on the one hand, the hills of Verduno, in the northern part of the Barolo region; on the other, the Barbaresco slopes, where the same grape takes on different characteristics due to exposure, microclimate and soil composition. The connection to the Langhe tradition is evident in the attention paid to the raw material and in an approach to the wines that prioritises the expression of the terroir over technical intervention.
In Verduno, the producer is also associated with Pelaverga Piccolo, a native grape variety of the Verduno DOC appellation, grown in a very small area between Verduno, La Morra and Roddi. The winery’s sources also highlight a significant role in promoting the production of single-varietal wines from this grape, which today forms a distinctive part of the town’s oenological identity. The natural environment of the Langhe, with its temperate subcontinental climate, Alpine and Ligurian influences, breezy hills and soils of marine origin, contributes to the expressive diversity of the vineyards.
The winemaking approach prioritises meticulous care in the vineyard, careful selection of the bunches and traditional winemaking methods. For the Nebbiolo-based wines, these include fermentation in open vats and lengthy ageing in large oak barrels; the work in the cellar aims to respect the personality of the grapes and their terroir. The result is a consistent style, deeply rooted in the Langhe, characterised by balance, aromatic finesse and a true reflection of the terroir.
