Producers/ Castellucci Miano
Castellucci Miano
Castellucci Miano is a Sicilian producer based in Valledolmo, in the hinterland of Palermo, on the slopes of the Madonie mountains. Its identity stems from high-altitude viticulture, where the vineyards are set in a hilly and mountainous landscape characterised by breezes, marked temperature variations and limestone-based soils, with sandy, clayey and siliceous components. These conditions favour slow ripening and a clear expression of the raw material, particularly Catarratto – a key grape variety for expressing the terroir – alongside indigenous red grape varieties such as Perricone.
The winemaking approach prioritises harmony with the Madonie environment: careful agronomic management, low-impact cultivation, meticulous selection of grapes and winemaking techniques designed to preserve freshness, tension and depth. Catarratto, grown at high altitude and interpreted with a sensitivity to the local terroir, takes on a distinctive character, combining aromatic finesse, a vertical structure on the palate and the potential for ageing. The reds, too, retain a character linked to their high-altitude origins, with expressions that are more slender than conventionally Mediterranean.
Set against the backdrop of inland Sicily, Castellucci Miano offers a clear vision of wine-growing in the Madonie region: mountain wines, rooted in the Valledolmo-Contea di Sclafani appellation and built on natural balance, viticultural biodiversity and the promotion of historic local grape varieties.
