Chiaromonte
Chiaromonte is an Apulian winery based in Acquaviva delle Fonti, in the heart of the Gioia del Colle area, where Primitivo finds one of its most distinctive expressions. The estate’s history dates back to 1826 and is linked to an agricultural heritage passed down through the generations, with a close relationship between the vineyards, olive groves and the landscape of the Murgia region in the province of Bari. The producer’s profile is defined above all by Primitivo di Gioia del Colle, an early-ripening grape variety which, in this area, matures at hilltop altitudes, with a warm climate, significant daily temperature variations and predominantly limestone soils, sometimes characterised by red earth with an iron content. In the vineyards, the Apulian ‘alberello’ training system plays a central role, reflecting a traditional cultivation method suited to the local environment and the balanced management of ripening. The winery’s stated approach prioritises organic methods and a territorial understanding of the raw material, with a focus on allowing the fruit to express itself fully without losing freshness, flavour and precision. In the cellar, winemaking takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by carefully calibrated ageing – including periods in wood for certain wines – always with the aim of preserving the recognisable character of the grape variety. Chiaromonte’s wines are distinguished by their Mediterranean intensity, structure and smoothness, but also by a mineral component and a gustatory tension that reflect the limestone terroir of Gioia del Colle.
