Cogno
Cogno is a Piedmontese winery based in Novello, in the Langhe, within one of the eleven municipalities authorised to produce Barolo DOCG. Its identity is particularly linked to the Ravera Additional Geographical Indication, a historic cru of the village and a site capable of producing a Nebbiolo with a classic, deep and distinctive character. Here, the vineyard benefits from compact, calcareous-clay soils rich in minerals, favourable exposures and a microclimate influenced by Alpine air currents and tempered by the proximity of the River Tanaro: conditions that contribute to freshness, savouriness and aromatic precision.
The winemaking approach prioritises a faithful interpretation of the terroir, with a focus on the quality of the raw material and winemaking techniques designed to complement the expression of Nebbiolo without overpowering it. The use of stainless steel during fermentation and ageing in large casks for the more terroir-driven expressions of Barolo reflect a focus on balance, tannic structure and the wine’s potential for development. Alongside Nebbiolo, Cogno also plays a significant role in promoting Nascetta, a native white grape variety linked to Novello and the winemaking heritage of the Langa.
Cogno’s wines are characterised by their elegance, balanced structure, distinct aromas and a freshness that remains a defining feature even in their most complex expressions. Taken together, they present a coherent profile: Barolos of contemporary classicism, deeply rooted in Ravera and the winemaking tradition of Novello.
