Producers/ Conterno Fantino
Conterno Fantino
Conterno Fantino is a Piedmontese producer based in Monforte d’Alba, in the heart of the Barolo region. Its identity stems from the Ginestra hill, the highest point in the village and a historic landmark of the Langhe landscape, in a setting characterised by views of the Alps, breezes blowing in from Liguria and a mosaic of aspect types that lend the Nebbiolo depth and precision. The vineyards are situated on slopes such as Ginestra, Mosconi, Bussia, Ornati, San Pietro and Bricco Bastìa, with soils comprising sand, silt, clay and marl, steep gradients and predominantly southerly exposures.
The approach to viticulture prioritises respect for the environment: organic farming, natural grass cover, Guyot pruning and a focus on sustainable practices define a genuine relationship with the vineyard. In the winery, technology is seen as a tool in the service of tradition, with gentle pressing, carefully managed fermentation, indigenous yeasts and ageing processes designed to complement the raw material without altering its character.
Barolo is the heart and soul of Conterno Fantino, with a style that seeks elegance, crisp fruit and a sense of the terroir. The wines display a distinctive character: structure and finesse interact with the vigour of the Monforte crus, conveying a contemporary yet firmly Langhe-rooted image of Nebbiolo-producing Piedmont.
