Contrade di Taurasi
Contrade di Taurasi is a Campania-based producer based in Taurasi, in the heart of the Irpinia wine-growing region, an inland area of the province of Avellino where Aglianico finds one of its most distinctive expressions. The brand was founded in 1998 and defines itself through a philosophy centred on the estate’s own grapes, continuity with local tradition, and agronomic and oenological experimentation aimed at accurately interpreting the terroir. Its identity is linked above all to Taurasi DOCG, a designation built around Aglianico, a grape variety capable of producing deep, structured and long-lived wines, characterised by tannins, freshness and a naturally austere and complex aromatic profile.
The vineyards are situated in the Taurasi area, where the diversity of the soils contributes to the character of the wines: cineritic and loose soils, clay-limestone components, silty substrates and well-ventilated areas form a mosaic of conditions that the producer interprets with care. Alongside the central role played by Aglianico is Grecomusc’, the local name for Rovello Bianco, a native Irpinia grape variety that has been revived and promoted as a rare expression of Campania’s ampelographic heritage.
In the winery, the approach favours fermentation using indigenous yeasts, carefully controlled maceration and ageing processes designed to complement the natural vigour of the grapes without overpowering their character. The result is a terroir-driven style, recognisable for its body, mineral depth, tension and ability to combine expressive power with precision, conveying an authentic picture of Taurasi’s viticulture.
