Cosimo Taurino
Cosimo Taurino is a winemaker from Puglia based in Guagnano, in the heart of the Lecce area of Salento, a region historically linked to Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera. The winery stems from a long-established family winemaking tradition and has built its identity around an understanding of native grape varieties, with a particular focus on Salento reds and the wines of the Salice Salentino DOC and Salento IGP regions. In this warm, sunny and Mediterranean climate, the vines find favourable conditions for full ripening, supported by significant phenolic content and distinctive aromatic profiles.
The winemaking approach showcases local raw materials through a process that combines traditional methods with contemporary technical expertise. The grapes are vinified with the aim of preserving the character of the terroir: structure, generous fruitiness, spicy notes and an earthy quality that reflects the identity of the Salento soils. Negroamaro, in particular, forms the expressive core of the range, often complemented by Malvasia Nera, which contributes softness, colour and aromatic depth.
Cosimo Taurino’s wines are characterised by a distinct Salento identity, combining measured warmth, body and immediacy, whilst also demonstrating balance and stylistic consistency. The winery plays a significant role in promoting Salento’s wine-growing heritage, maintaining a strong connection with the historic grape varieties of southern Puglia and upholding a winemaking tradition focused on the authentic expression of the terroir.
