Criserà
Criserà is a Calabrian winery based in the Reggio Calabria area, with a history that sources trace back to the late 19th century and a production tradition closely linked to the landscape of the Costa Viola. Its identity stems from a highly distinctive viticultural environment: slopes overlooking the Strait, terraces supported by stone walls and dry-stone walls, soils cultivated under challenging conditions, and a natural balance shaped by the proximity of the sea, the cool breezes and the intense sunshine of southern Italy.
In this context, viticulture takes on a heroic character, as the layout of the vineyards makes manual labour and careful management of the raw material essential. The connection with the region’s native grape varieties is a defining feature of the Criserà style: indigenous grapes such as Greco Bianco, Greco Nero, Gaglioppo, Nerello and Malvasia Nera help to define IGT wines with a Mediterranean character, characterised by freshness, savouriness and structure. Sources also highlight the use of modern winemaking techniques, integrated with a local tradition that emphasises grape selection, authentic expression and a distinct sense of place.
Criserà wines capture the essence of the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria with a bold yet balanced profile, combining character, finesse and elegance. The winery thus offers a coherent interpretation of the Costa Viola: an extreme and luminous place, where the landscape of the Strait becomes an essential part of the wine’s character.
