Damijan Podversic
Damijan Podversic is a winemaker from Friuli-Venezia Giulia with ties to the Collio Goriziano region, a border area where viticulture is shaped by the proximity of Slovenia, the influence of the Adriatic Sea and the mountains to the north. The vineyards are situated on the slopes of Monte Calvario, near Gorizia, on steep terraces with ponca soils – locally also known as opoka: a crumbly alternation of marl and sandstone that contributes to the wines’ mineral tension and expressive depth.
Our winemaking identity is built on a very direct relationship with the raw material and the natural rhythm of the vineyard. The choice of grape varieties places particular emphasis on those native to the region, such as Friulano, Malvasia Istriana and Ribolla Gialla, which are vinified through careful ripening and harvesting aimed at allowing the fruit to express itself fully. In the cellar, the approach is minimalist and consistent: winemaking involves long maceration on the skins, gentle fermentation and extended ageing in wood, followed by further ageing in the bottle before release.
The result is white wines with a strong sense of place, structured and profound, in which the grape variety’s aromatic profile intertwines with savouriness, body and a distinctive textural quality. Damijan Podversic’s style ranks among the most representative expressions of macerated Collio wines, with wines that seek continuity between soil, vintage and time.
