Denis Montanar

Denis Montanar is a farm in Friuli Venezia Giulia linked to Borc Dodon, a historic village in the Villa Vicentina area, in the province of Udine. Its identity stems from a direct connection with the eastern Friuli plain, not far from the Adriatic, where viticulture coexists with other agricultural crops and with an understanding of the soil as a living resource. The vineyards are situated on soils composed of sand, silt and clay, a mix that contributes to wines with a textural, briny and terroir-driven profile.

The vineyards have been certified as organically managed since 1996, and this is accompanied by key agricultural practices: minimal treatments, measured use of copper and sulphur, a focus on organic fertilisation, and manual grape harvesting. The estate showcases Friulian grape varieties such as Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Verduzzo Friulano and Friulano, alongside varieties that have long been established in the region, produced without artificial intervention and with a strong sense of continuity between the vineyard and the winery.

The winemaking process follows a natural, minimally interventionist approach. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts; maceration times may vary depending on the raw materials and vintage; and ageing favours vessels capable of complementing the wine without masking its origins. The absence of invasive clarification and filtration contributes to an expressive, profound and recognisable style, in which energy, refined rusticity and a connection to the terroir are central elements. The result is a Friulian wine production with a strong agricultural character, capable of telling the story of Borc Dodon through lively, authentic and consistent wines.
