Elena Walch
Elena Walch is a leading figure in South Tyrolean winemaking, with deep roots in the Termeno and Caldaro area, along one of the most distinctive stretches of the South Tyrolean Wine Route. Her identity stems from a precise understanding of the terroir: her wines are conceived as an expression of the soil, the climate and the work in the vineyard, in a setting where the Alpine landscape meets milder influences of Mediterranean origin. This combination fosters significant temperature variations, good ventilation and ripening conditions that combine aromatic profile, freshness and definition.
The connection with individual vineyards is key. The most representative plots are situated above Lake Caldaro and on the steep, terraced slopes above Termeno; these exposures highlight the area’s aptitude for white wines of great precision – particularly Gewürztraminer – and for South Tyrolean reds with a distinct profile. The winemaking approach prioritises the recognisability of the wine’s origin, with a focus on grape selection and winemaking techniques designed to preserve varietal character, balance and depth.
Sustainability is an integral part of agronomic management: in the vineyards, emphasis is placed on grass cover, biodiversity, soil fertility and practices aimed at reducing the most invasive interventions. The result is a style consistent with the finest contemporary tradition of South Tyrol, where technical precision and an understanding of the local terroir come together in elegant, luminous wines that are deeply rooted in the landscape from which they originate.
