Famiglia Cotarella

Famiglia Cotarella is a Lazio-based producer with roots in Montefiascone, in Upper Lazio, where the project was launched in 1979 under the name Falesco, with a clear aim: to showcase the winemaking potential of a historic area, linked to the volcanic hills near Lake Bolsena and the Est! Est!! Est!!! Montefiascone PDO designation. The connection with this territory is particularly evident in the exploration of local grape varieties, notably Roscetto – seen as a variety capable of combining structure, aromatic richness and freshness – alongside traditional local grapes such as Trebbiano and Malvasia.

The winery’s identity is shaped by the area between Montefiascone and Castiglione in Teverina, in a landscape characterised by volcanic, sandy, clayey and limestone soils that give rise to distinct expressions in the white, rosé and red wines of Lazio IGP. The approach combines a focus on the raw materials, a study of the grape varieties and winemaking techniques designed to preserve balance, varietal character and a clean, expressive style. Alongside the Lazio terroir, the winery has established a modern vision of Central Italy, in which indigenous and international grape varieties are interpreted with stylistic consistency, focusing on wines with a defined structure, a crisp aromatic profile and measured maturity.

Sustainability – as evidenced by the reference to Equalitas certification – reinforces a philosophy centred on continuity between the vineyard, the community and the local area. The Cotarella family thus represents a significant voice in Lazio’s wine sector: deeply rooted in Tuscia, technically advanced and contemporary, yet always connected to the agricultural heritage of its hills.
