Producers/ Fongaro
Fongaro
Fongaro is a Veneto-based producer with links to eastern Lessinia and the Val d’Alpone, in the Roncà area, where the Lessini Durello DOC designation finds one of its most distinctive expressions. The winery has built its reputation around Durella, a native grape variety of the Lessini Mountains, prized for its natural acidity and its ability to withstand lengthy sparkling wine production processes. The choice of the Metodo Classico clearly defines the production approach: the second fermentation in the bottle becomes the key stage for enhancing the wine’s structure, tension and length.
The soil and climate are an essential part of the wine’s character. The vineyards are situated in a hilly area between Verona and Vicenza, on volcanic soils rich in minerals, within a landscape shaped by the geology of the Lessini Mountains. This terroir contributes to wines with a fresh, vertical and savoury profile, in which the Durella grape retains its vigour, precision and a natural aptitude for ageing on the lees.
The winemaking approach incorporates a long-standing commitment to organic principles, consistent with a respectful approach to the raw materials and the Lessini environment. In the cellar, the focus is on practices centred on caring for the grapes, soft pressing and ageing on the lees, with a style that seeks a delicate perlage, aromatic complexity and a distinct mineral character. Fongaro thus represents a strongly regional expression of the Veneto Metodo Classico, centred on the identity of the Durella grape and the volcanic character of the Lessinia region.
