Franz Haas
Franz Haas is a long-established South Tyrolean producer, based in Montagna and in business since 1880, with a family tradition spanning eight generations. Its identity stems from a highly complex Alpine region, where the vineyards are spread across Montagna, Egna, Trodena and Aldino and encounter very different conditions in terms of altitude, aspect and soil composition. Porphyry sands, clays and limestone components contribute to a multifaceted understanding of the terroir, whilst the higher altitudes, reaching up to 1,150 metres, represent an agronomic choice driven by the pursuit of freshness, aromatic profile and longevity within an evolving climate.
Vineyard management is a key element: the use of organic substances, grass cover and a focus on biodiversity underpin an approach that prioritises natural balance and the quality of the raw material. In the winery, the production philosophy focuses on precision, character and complexity, without separating the technical aspect from an artisanal and experimental sensibility. Pinot Noir plays a particularly significant role in Franz Haas’s identity, expressed through cool climatic conditions, slow ripening and a constant quest for finesse. The result is South Tyrolean wines recognisable for their clarity, tension, aromatic depth and ability to express the interplay between mountain viticulture and varietal character.
