Gabrio e Giotto Bini
Gabrio and Giotto Bini are behind the Serragghia wine project, based on Pantelleria, a Sicilian volcanic island situated between the central Mediterranean and North African influences. The terroir clearly defines the identity of the wines: lava soils, intense sunshine, low rainfall and constant winds necessitate a minimalist, labour-intensive approach to viticulture that is deeply adapted to the environment. In this context, the Pantelleria ‘alberello’ training system plays a central role, as it protects the vines from gusts of wind and allows the grapes to ripen close to the volcanic soil, in keeping with an agricultural tradition historically linked to the island.
The raw material comes from grape varieties that are in harmony with the Pantelleria and Sicilian landscapes, with particular emphasis on Zibibbo, alongside varieties such as Catarratto and Pignatello. The approach in the vineyard and in the cellar prioritises minimal intervention, natural farming and a direct interpretation of the terroir. Fermentation is spontaneous, carried out using indigenous yeasts, whilst extended maceration and the use of amphorae buried in tuff contribute to a recognisable, textured and briny style.
Serragghia’s wines express the essence of Pantelleria through intense aromas, Mediterranean vigour and a mineral character that evokes the island’s volcanic origins. Their identity stems from the interplay between aromatic grape varieties, an extreme climate and a minimalist winemaking approach, designed to preserve vitality, depth and a strong connection to the terroir.
