Galardi
Galardi is a producer from Campania with links to the Terra di Lavoro area, in the northern part of the region, around Sessa Aurunca and Roccamonfina. Its identity stems from a landscape of volcanic origin, where the vineyards are nestled amongst hillsides, chestnut woods and olive groves, with the influence of the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea contributing to the climatic balance. This environment gives rise to red wines with a strong sense of place, based primarily on the blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso, two Campania grape varieties capable of expressing structure, tension and aromatic depth.
The winemaking approach highlights the raw material and the distinctive character of the terroir, seeking to clearly express the volcanic soils and the natural vigour of the grapes. Aglianico brings structure, character and the potential for ageing, whilst Piedirosso introduces a lighter, spicier and more Mediterranean element, helping to make the wines’ profile less monolithic and more multifaceted. Organic cultivation, as indicated by available sources, forms part of an agricultural philosophy that is mindful of the natural environment and the vineyard’s expressive continuity.
Within the Campania wine scene, Galardi represents one of the most distinctive expressions of the Roccamonfina area and the historic Terra di Lavoro. His wines are characterised by density, rigour and depth, whilst maintaining a clear connection to a landlocked territory that is nonetheless open to sea breezes – austere in its volcanic origins yet generous in the ripeness of its fruit.
