Gianfranco Fino
Gianfranco Fino is a leading figure in Puglia, with strong links to the Manduria area and the Salento region, where Primitivo and Negroamaro express their intense, Mediterranean and deeply regional character. The project began in 2004 with the restoration of Primitivo vineyards trained using the ‘alberello’ method, a traditional training system that remains central to the estate’s identity and to the character of the local wine-growing landscape.
The vines grow on red, calcareous-clay soils, in a setting characterised by the southern light, the warmth of Puglia and the influence of the breeze from the Ionian Sea. These conditions favour grapes of great ripeness, capable of combining aromatic richness, structure and depth, whilst maintaining a recognisable link to their Salento origins.
Production focuses on the region’s two flagship varieties, Primitivo and Negroamaro, vinified with a focus on the raw material and on preserving the character of the vineyards. This approach emphasises natural concentration, precise extraction and a focus on balance, resulting in wines with a broad, enveloping and layered profile, in which power is combined with definition and stylistic consistency.
Gianfranco Fino interprets Puglia through a winemaking approach that focuses on old vines and the alberello tradition, offering a contemporary take on the Salento region based on ripeness, varietal identity and a strong connection to the terroir.
