Giovanni Battista Columbu
The Giovanni Battista Columbu winery has deep roots in Bosa and the small Malvasia di Bosa DOC area on the west coast of Sardinia. Its work centres on Malvasia di Sardegna, a grape variety that finds ideal conditions in the Planargia region: intense sunlight, a maritime influence, rich ripening and a winemaking tradition capable of producing wines with a strong Mediterranean identity. The vineyards are situated between the countryside around Bosa and that of Magomadas, in sunny and well-ventilated locations, consistent with the aim of producing concentrated, healthy grapes suitable for long ageing.
The winemaking approach emphasises a traditional and recognisable interpretation of the appellation. Hand-harvesting, the use of natural yeasts, vinification in stainless steel and subsequent ageing in partially filled oak barrels, with the development of flor, define a measured oxidative style, based on time, balance and continuity. The wines display golden and amber hues, intense aromas of ripe fruit, almond and hazelnut, alongside a warm, smooth and dry palate, underpinned by the grape variety’s natural richness.
Giovanni Battista Columbu produces one of the most distinctive interpretations of Malvasia di Bosa: a wine that preserves the cultural link with the local area and, without any artificiality, conveys the historical and sensory depth of this corner of Sardinia.
