Gravner
Gravner is a deeply rooted institution in Oslavia, in the Gorizia area of Friuli Venezia Giulia, on the Collio hills close to the Slovenian border. The wine-growing landscape in which it operates is that of a region where the Alpine world meets Adriatic influences, featuring rolling hillsides, varying altitudes and marl-sand soils locally known as ‘ponca’ – elements that favour wines with structure, tension and a strong sense of place.
Its identity is linked above all to a rigorous reinterpretation of Ribolla Gialla and, for red grapes, Pignolo – grape varieties capable of expressing the character of the Gorizia Collio region without any artificial embellishments. The approach to viticulture and winemaking prioritises the ripeness of the raw material, minimal intervention and an essential relationship with time: fermentation takes place in large Georgian amphorae buried in the ground, with long maceration on the skins and without resorting to invasive technological control. Following this phase, the wine’s development continues slowly in large wooden barrels, following a process that guides it towards depth, stability and complexity.
The Gravner style is recognisable for its ability to combine energy and contemplation: amber-coloured, textured and multi-layered wines, in which contact with the skins is not merely an aesthetic feature but a means of expression. The winery has played a decisive role in bringing contemporary prominence to amphora vinification and macerated wines from Friuli Venezia Giulia, maintaining a rare consistency between terroir, grape varieties and method.
