Grifalco della Lucania

Grifalco della Lucania is a winery based in Venosa with strong ties to Aglianico del Vulture, a grape variety it cultivates on the slopes of Mount Vulture, in northern Basilicata. Founded in 2004, it chose a specific specialisation from the outset: to work exclusively with Aglianico, exploring its various expressions across plots spread across areas such as Maschito, Venosa, Rapolla and Ginestra. This mosaic of vineyards allows the variety to be understood through different soils and conditions, in a territory characterised by its volcanic origins, complex deposits, hilly terrain and significant temperature variations during the final stages of ripening.

The approach to viticulture is focused on respect for the environment and care for the raw material, with certified organic grapes and wines. The management of the grapes prioritises selection and the integrity of the fruit, whilst in the winery the winemaking processes are designed to complement the character of Aglianico without overpowering it: fermentation in stainless steel, temperature control, carefully measured maceration and ageing that combines stainless steel and oak according to the identity of the wines.

Grifalco della Lucania’s style highlights the depth of the Vulture region: full-bodied red wines with a mineral character, lively acidity and tannins that are pronounced yet gradually become harmonious. The overall expression combines Mediterranean energy, mountainous vigour and a distinct sense of place, helping to tell the story of one of Basilicata’s most distinctive wine regions.
