I Borboni
I Borboni is a Campania-based producer with links to Lusciano, in the Caserta area, and to the Agro Aversano region, where the Asprinio di Aversa retains a unique character within the regional wine-growing landscape. Its identity stems from the revival of a highly distinctive local tradition: the cultivation of vines trained on poplar trees – known as ‘alberata aversana’ – a historic system that encourages the vines to grow upwards and which profoundly shapes the landscape, the raw material and the culture of wine. The connection with Asprinio is central: a white grape variety with natural freshness, capable of producing wines with a taut, savoury and vertical profile, consistent with the appellation’s most authentic character. The vineyards in the area are situated on predominantly sandy soils of volcanic origin, a setting that contributes to the wines’ precise expression and mineral tension. Alongside work in the vineyard, I Borboni maintains a significant relationship with the ancient tuff caves in the historic centre, spaces traditionally used for winemaking and ageing thanks to their darkness, humidity and naturally constant temperature. The winemaking approach therefore emphasises territorial continuity and a contemporary interpretation, with techniques designed to preserve freshness, varietal character and a briny quality. The result is a crisp, dry and distinctive style, in which Asprinio becomes a cultural expression of the Agro Aversano region and a living testament to a rare form of Campania viticulture – deeply rooted and still strongly defined by its identity.
