I Clivi
I Clivi embodies the hilly landscape of Friuli Venezia Giulia, situated at a cultural and geological crossroads between Collio Goriziano and Colli Orientali del Friuli. The name refers to the sun-drenched slopes that characterise this area, where the aspect, ventilation and marly-sandy flysch soils favour slow ripening and a precise expression of the grape varieties. The winery works with old vines, predominantly drawn from Friuli’s ampelographic heritage, with a particular focus on Ribolla Gialla, Friulano, Malvasia Istriana and Verduzzo – varieties capable of clearly conveying the differences between the two appellation areas.
The approach to viticulture prioritises practices that respect the natural balance of the vine and the soil, with an organic focus and measured interventions. In the winery, the grapes are handled with care: gentle pressing, fermentation initiated by the yeasts naturally present on the grapes, and ageing predominantly in stainless steel contribute to preserving the wines’ aromatic integrity, tension and expressive clarity. The stylistic approach avoids unnecessary heaviness and aims for dry, luminous, briny wines, underpinned by acidity and depth rather than opulence.
What emerges is a distinctive profile, based on the finesse of Friuli’s white wines and the ability to blend local tradition with a contemporary sensibility. Clivi thus highlights the interplay between old vineyards, indigenous grape varieties and the borderland landscape, offering a pure and coherent interpretation of the eastern hills of Friuli.
