Illuminati
Illuminati is a winemaker from Abruzzo, based in Controguerra, in the Teramo area, a region situated on the natural and cultural border between Abruzzo and Marche. Its identity is closely linked to the Teramo Hills, a region where viticulture benefits from the combination of the protective influence of the Gran Sasso and the moderating influence of the Adriatic Sea. This climatic balance promotes full and gradual ripening, which is particularly well-suited to bringing out depth, structure and freshness in Montepulciano-based wines.
The company’s history has its roots in the late nineteenth century and is sustained by a direct connection with the land of Controguerra, where the cultivation of the grapes and their vinification in the cellar are seen as a single, integrated process. Alongside Montepulciano – the key grape variety for the appellation and for the producer’s style – there is also room for Abruzzese varieties such as Pecorino, Passerina and Trebbiano, prized for their ability to convey brightness, flavour and a sense of place.
The winemaking approach prioritises care for the raw material, attention to individual vintages and meticulous processing, whilst maintaining an artisanal touch even in technical decisions. Illuminati wines are characterised by a clear expression of the Teramo Hills: reds with good intensity, a mature structure and harmonious development, alongside whites that express freshness and character. Overall, the producer represents a distinctive voice from the Teramo area of Abruzzo, remaining true to its origins and to the landscape that defines its style.
