La Crotta di Vegneron

La Crotta di Vegneron is an agricultural co-operative in the Aosta Valley, based in Chambave, in the heart of the middle Aosta Valley. It was founded in 1980 to ensure the continuity of hillside viticulture and the historic relationship between winegrowers, grapes and the mountains. Its territory stretches along the central valley, in the area between Saint-Vincent and Nus, where the Chambave and Nus sub-zones of the Valle d’Aosta DOC define a distinct and recognisable wine-growing identity.

The landscape is characterised by steep slopes, sunny exposures and extreme soil and climate conditions – factors which place the work in the vineyard within the context of ‘heroic’ Alpine viticulture. The soils, of morainic origin, are predominantly sandy, rich in coarse particles, shallow and sub-alkaline; the climate is dry and breezy, characterised in summer by marked temperature variations between day and night – factors which contribute to the aromatic profile of the grapes.

The production philosophy focuses on the region’s grape varieties, with particular attention paid to Muscat à Petits Grains – the symbol of Chambave – and indigenous varieties such as Petit Rouge, Fumin and Vien de Nus, alongside grapes with deep-rooted traditions in the Aosta Valley, such as Nus Malvoisie. The agricultural approach aims for sustainable management of the raw material, employing careful agronomic techniques, monitoring during the harvest and winemaking practices focused on health and precision. The wines thus express a distinct mountain character, where freshness, mineral tension, aromatic complexity and structure coherently convey the unique character of the central Aosta Valley.
