La Tosa
La Tosa is a winery based in Vigolzone, in the province of Piacenza, nestled within the rolling hills of the Colli Piacentini. Its identity stems from the village of La Tosa, at the entrance to the Val Nure and close to the Val Trebbia, in a setting characterised by woodland, vine-covered slopes and a natural environment that remains relatively unspoilt. The area falls within the Colli Piacentini DOC region, where viticulture is shaped by parallel valleys, breezes, varied exposures and a temperate sub-continental climate that favours balanced ripening.
One of the most distinctive features is the soil: La Tosa describes its vineyards as being situated on ancient red soils – clay-silt river terraces – which are low in fertility but rich in minerals, containing iron and manganese. This soil profile supports an interpretation of the terroir focused on the structure, depth, intensity and ageing potential of the wines.
The vineyard is managed using an organic approach, which was introduced in the 2015 vintage and has been certified since 2018, with a focus on copper, sulphur and natural preparations for vine protection. In the winery, the work is based on technical precision and tasting, with winemaking processes designed to complement the expression of the raw material rather than overpower it. The result is a distinctive style, centred on predominantly still wines with a strong sense of place, capable of interpreting both Piacenza’s historic grape varieties and international varieties with a deeply local sensibility.
