Le Potazzine

Le Potazzine is an estate in Montalcino deeply rooted in the Brunello landscape, where the name evokes the great tit – a familiar sight in the Tuscan countryside and a symbol of a direct connection with the land. The vineyards are situated in two complementary areas within the appellation: Le Prata, in the south-western and highest part, and Sant’Angelo in Colle, in the southern sector. This dual origin of the grapes allows for a combination of tension, aromas and finesse with a fuller structure, always in keeping with the character of 100 per cent Sangiovese.

The terroir is characterised by altitude, constant ventilation and significant daily temperature variations – conditions that favour slow ripening, healthy grapes and precise aromatics. The vineyards are managed with a focus on manual labour and an approach that respects nature, with interventions kept to the bare minimum and careful attention paid to preserving the integrity of the bunches. In the cellar, the winemaking process remains consistent with a traditional, hands-off approach: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, long maceration and ageing in medium-sized Slavonian oak barrels.

The style of Le Potazzine’s wines seeks harmony, finesse and a clean, expressive character. The Sangiovese stands out with a distinct profile, well-balanced tannins, fresh vigour and an elegant expression of the Montalcino terroir, managing to combine naturalness, depth and distinctiveness without resorting to technical artifice.
