Librandi
Librandi is a long-established business in the Ionian region of Calabria, based in Cirò Marina and deeply rooted in the wine-growing culture of the Crotone area. The bottling business, which began in 1953, has developed from the heart of the Cirò DOC, an area where the vineyards blend with the plains and hills overlooking the Ionian Sea, in a landscape shaped by the proximity of the Sila mountains. In this context, the Cirò and Melissa appellations and the Calabria PGI designation serve as a means of expressing a viticultural tradition grounded in local identity and territorial continuity.
Librandi’s work focuses above all on promoting Calabrian native grape varieties, with Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco at the heart of a vision that combines tradition and research. The winery has devoted particular attention to the recovery and study of the region’s ampelographic heritage, through experimental plots, clonal selections and a collection of local varieties designed to preserve biodiversity and oenological potential. In the Cirò vineyards, even on clayey and calcareous soils, the raw material is interpreted with an approach focused on precision and distinctiveness.
Sustainability is an integral part of the production philosophy, with a focus on the local area, biodiversity and management practices consistent with responsible viticulture. Librandi wines seek to offer a clear expression of Calabria: reds that reflect the character of the Gaglioppo grape, whites that embody Mediterranean freshness, and a stylistic approach that prioritises balance, varietal identity and an understanding of the terroir.
