Livon
Livon is a Friuli-based producer with deep roots in the Collio region, in the Dolegna del Collio area of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The journey that began in 1964 took root in the hills of this north-eastern corner of Italy, near the Slovenian border, where viticulture finds an environment naturally suited to characterful white wines and highly distinctive expressions of the terroir. The Collio landscape is characterised by gentle slopes and soils of Eocene origin, comprising marl and sandstone, locally known as ‘ponca’: a soil profile that fosters depth, savouriness and a distinctive mineral edge in the wines.
Livon’s winemaking philosophy showcases both Friulian grape varieties and international varieties that have now become historically established in the region. Friulano, Malvasia, Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco and Picolit stand out as key examples of an approach that prioritises the quality of the raw material and precision of expression. The winery’s production notes indicate hand-harvesting, cold maceration in the press, cold static settling of the musts and controlled fermentation; stainless steel is used to preserve freshness and clarity, whilst French oak is employed selectively in certain vinifications, without compromising the connection to the varietal profile and the character of the vineyard.
The result is a style characterised by clean, savoury and persistent wines, often featuring ripe fruit, floral or aromatic notes, balance and minerality. Livon interprets the Collio region of Friuli with a recognisable stylistic consistency, combining local winemaking tradition with technical precision in the winemaking process.
