Marco Sara
Marco Sara is a winemaker from Friuli Venezia Giulia with ties to Savorgnano del Torre, in the municipality of Povoletto, within the Friuli Colli Orientali appellation. His identity stems from a secluded stretch of hillside, characterised by the convergence of the pre-Alpine environment, cool breezes, woodland and watercourses – elements that contribute to the grapes’ slow ripening and a natural expressive intensity. The vineyard landscape rests on ponca soils, the marly-sandy substrate typical of the area, which imparts depth, savouriness and a distinctive mineral character to the wines.
Work in the vineyard follows a certified organic approach and prioritises a respectful relationship with the raw material, with a focus on the region’s traditional grape varieties and their ability to convey the character of the terroir. Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Verduzzo, Picolit and red varieties with deep historical roots in the Colli Orientali find here a cool, breezy environment, ideal for producing wines that are crisp, dynamic and true to their terroir.
In the cellar, the approach remains measured, with minimal intervention and technical choices aimed at preserving the wine’s energy, precision and connection to the vineyard. The winemaking processes highlight the saline character and the natural structure of the soils, avoiding standardised styles and favouring wines with a dry, vibrant and consistent character. Marco Sara thus represents an artisanal voice from the Friuli Colli Orientali region, centred on the unique character of Savorgnano del Torre and on an essential, agricultural and deeply terroir-driven interpretation of Friulian wine.
