Masca del Tacco
Masca del Tacco is an Apulian winery linked to the Brindisi countryside and the central-northern heart of Salento, with roots in Erchie and a strong focus on the grape varieties that best reflect this part of the region. Its identity stems from the restoration of a historic cooperative winery that has been in operation since the post-war period, renovated with modern technical facilities whilst remaining committed to preserving the agricultural and regional character of the wines. The setting is that of a warm, sunny Puglia, influenced by its proximity to the Ionian Sea, where the climate and soil quality help to define mature, sunny and distinctive profiles. The vineyards are predominantly planted with Primitivo, Negroamaro and Fiano, alongside Susumaniello, an ancient Apulian grape variety prized for its intense character. A significant proportion of the vines are trained using the ‘alberello’ method, a traditional style particularly well-suited to reflecting the viticultural character of the Salento region and maintaining the balance of the grapes in Mediterranean conditions. The soils in the Erchie area are of medium texture, clayey and rich in limestone – characteristics that favour wines with good structure, depth and savouriness. In the winery, the approach combines traditionally inspired winemaking techniques, manual work in the vineyard and measured use of oak, with technologies designed to ensure expressive precision. The result is a generous yet defined style, capable of highlighting warmth, fruit, freshness and Apulian character without losing balance.
