Masseria Perugini
Masseria Perugini is a Calabrian farm and winery based in the Prato area, in the province of Cosenza, set in an inland landscape characterised by its proximity to the Sila and Pollino mountain ranges. Its identity stems from a hilly landscape rich in biodiversity, where the altitude, constant breeze and predominantly clay-limestone soil composition help to define a Mediterranean style of viticulture, closely linked to the most authentic nature of Calabria.
Wine production forms part of a broad and coherent agricultural vision, certified organic since 1998 and focused on environmentally friendly practices. In the vineyard, the focus is on the raw material and on promoting traditional local grape varieties, including Magliocco, Guarnaccia, Malvasia Bianca and Mantonico, which are seen as expressions of the local ampelographic diversity. Agronomic management avoids synthetic chemicals and insecticides, whilst manual harvesting ensures a careful selection of the grapes.
In the winery, the approach remains simple and artisanal: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, minimal intervention and no filtration all help to preserve the wines’ vitality, texture and distinctive character. The style tends towards a full-bodied, terroir-driven expression, with Mediterranean characteristics, aromatic notes of herbs, citrus, spices and Mediterranean scrub, and a palate that combines Calabrian warmth with freshness and natural expressiveness.
