Montalbera
Montalbera is a Piedmontese producer based in a wine-growing border area between Monferrato and the Langhe, with its roots in the territory between Grana, Castagnole Monferrato and Montemagno. Its identity centres primarily on Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG, a native grape variety which finds one of its most distinctive expressions in the Asti Monferrato region. The vineyards are set amidst a hilly landscape, with varying exposures and soils that alternate between clay and limestone components; conditions that encourage a nuanced understanding of the raw material and allow for the fine-tuning of aromatic finesse, structure and depth.
Viticulture focuses on careful management of the vines, with manual work and a commitment to SQNPI-certified integrated production. This sustainable approach includes measures designed to reduce the environmental impact throughout the supply chain, whilst in the winery the stated philosophy centres on ‘fruit-driven wine’: an approach that seeks to preserve the grapes’ original character and highlight the distinctive qualities of individual vineyards. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the use of indigenous yeasts selected from the vineyards, and the measured use of oak form part of a stylistic approach based on rigour, precision and fidelity to the terroir.
In Montalbera’s wines, Ruchè plays a central role: floral aromas, fruity notes and spicy undertones define its instantly recognisable profile, which captures a unique and distinctive aspect of Piedmont.
