Producers/ Monte Santoccio
Monte Santoccio
Monte Santoccio is a Veneto-based producer based in Fumane, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica, a hilly area near Verona where viticulture is characterised by local grape varieties and historic appellations. Its identity is closely linked to the direct management of its raw materials: the wines are made from grapes grown in the estate’s own vineyards, a factor that allows for precise control over the production process from vineyard to cellar and a consistent understanding of the terroir.
The ampelographic profile draws on the Valpolicella tradition, with varieties such as Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara, which are also cultivated using traditional training systems such as the Trentino pergola. Within this context, Monte Santoccio interprets the Fumane landscape by prioritising precision, clarity of expression and the recognisability of the fruit, whilst maintaining the connection with the structure and depth typical of the region’s red wines.
The winemaking approach aims to bring out the quality of the grapes and the natural balance of the wines. The winemaking processes are designed to preserve freshness, flavour and aromatic definition, whilst the use of different containers – including concrete and wood – is employed to guide the wine’s development without overpowering the varietal identity. The result is a terroir-driven, restrained style, in which Valpolicella Classica comes to the fore through wines with a crisp, fruity and consistent character, capable of conveying the essence of the Veronese hills with immediacy and depth.
