Nanni Copè
Nanni Copè is a winemaker from Campania with ties to the upper Caserta area, around Castel Campagnano and the Volturno river, an inland region yet one influenced by its proximity to the sea and the presence of hills and woodland. His identity stems from the combination of historic grape varieties from the province of Caserta and a highly distinctive vineyard environment, characterised by gentle slopes, constant breezes and soils with a high sand and gravel content. In this context, Pallagrello Nero plays a central role, complemented by local varieties such as Casavecchia and Aglianico, which add structure, depth and expressive tension.
The winemaking approach prioritises a precise understanding of the raw materials and the terroir, with a focus on the ripening of the grapes, the selection of the bunches and a farming approach centred on measured interventions. The winery has helped to raise the profile of an area of Campania that is less immediately obvious than the region’s better-known wine-growing districts, demonstrating the potential of red wines from the upper Caserta area when produced from light soils, cool exposures and indigenous grape varieties with a distinct character.
The style of these wines is characterised by a balance between Mediterranean character and finesse: the fruit is never heavy-handed, the tannic structure remains crisp, and the sandy component of the soil lends a sense of vigour, elegance and depth. Nanni Copè thus represents a very distinct expression of the Terre del Volturno, rooted in local identity, rigorous viticulture and interpretative sensitivity.
