Nicodemi

Nicodemi is an Abruzzo-based producer based in Notaresco, in the heart of the Colline Teramane, an area where Montepulciano finds one of its most distinctive expressions within the Colline Teramane Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOCG appellation. The vineyards stretch across a south-east-facing hilly landscape, with the Gran Sasso behind them and the Adriatic not far away: a combination that promotes good air circulation, significant daily temperature variations and balanced ripening of the grapes. The medium-textured, calcareous-clay soils help to impart structure, depth and a distinctive terroir character to the wines.

The agricultural approach is based on certified organic farming, the absence of herbicides, pesticides and chemical fertilisers, and permanent natural grass cover between the rows. Mass selection from the old vineyards underscores the focus on preserving the local plant heritage and biodiversity. Alongside Montepulciano, the key grape variety in terms of identity and appellation, the estate also cultivates Abruzzese varieties such as Trebbiano and Pecorino.

In the winery, Nicodemi prioritises a clear understanding of the raw materials and the terroir. Stainless steel, spontaneous fermentation in some wines, and vinification in cocciopesto amphorae define a style that combines respect for tradition, technical precision and a quest for expression. The wines emphasise character, freshness, savouriness and a connection to the landscape of the Teramo Hills, reflecting a vibrant, authentic and deeply rooted Abruzzo that is intimately linked to its grape varieties.
